The 68th Annual Aid For Cancer Research Fashion Benefit

ACR_DWN-JULY-2016_pic-05Every once in a while the stars and planets align and you have the perfect setup for a wonderful soiree. This year’s Aid for Cancer Research (ACR) fashion luncheon was such an event!

Now in it’s 68th year, the annual luncheon is attended by a select group of charitable members who are treated to an amazing pop-up show, delicious lunch and then exquisite fashions. This year those fashions were provided by Ted Baker of London, who’s local outlet can be found on Newbury Street in Boston.

For the first time in several years, the luncheon was held at the Westin in Waltham. The venue was a perfect layout for the attendees and is centrally located off a major highway with plenty of free parking.

The event started with the pop-up show which greeted the attendees as they walked into the Westin. The pop-up show contained many amazing area vendors that showcased everything from jewelry to bold summer fashions. Then all the attendees made their way into the ballroom for the start of the fashion show!

ACR_DWN-JULY-2016_pic-04In previous years the models for the fashion show were provided by Dynasty Models & Talent in Boston. This year saw a slight change. In 2015 Joe & Gin Freeman sold the Dynasty agency and then opened a fashion consulting firm called The Freeman Group, which specializes in producing events like the ACR fashion luncheon. Because the Freemans are no longer bound by one agency they elected to create a Boston dream team of models from all the local agencies! As a fashion photographer I can tell you it was a true pleasure looking at the talent that was gracing the runway that day!

Most of the the Ted Baker designs shown were casual and meant for summer wear. Many floral patterns for the ladies and the men’s offerings were definitely making one dream about sitting by the ocean at the local yacht club sipping a nice cold beer!

Although fashion was the focal point of the event, the main reason ACR exists is to help fund many advanced cancer research projects. Only a few dozen members make up the administrative side of ACR and 99% of all monies taken in go right to research. That’s an incredible percentage in today’s world where many charitable organizations struggle with high overhead.

The event closed with an delectable meal and some very satisfied benefactors. If you want more information on the Aid For Cancer Research, please visit their web site at:
