Black and White Dresses on the Oscars 2024 Red Carpet

After monochrome hues had a major moment on the runways of Gucci, Chloé and Carven during the spring 2024 season, shades of black and white have made their way to the red carpet. Pared-down palettes were popular among attendees at the Golden Globes and People’s Choice Awards, and now stars at the Oscars, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, are following suit.

From Jennifer Lawrence to Billie Eilish, see which celebrities embraced the black and white trend at the 2024 Oscars.

Jennifer Lawrence

Lawrence’s custom Christian Dior couture gown was covered in polka dots. The actress completed her ensemble with matching diamond jewels by Swarovksi. Stylist Jamie Mizrahi dressed Lawrence for the occasion.

Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan’s strapless Balenciaga gown featured a mermaid silhouette, matching opera gloves and a pleated tulle skirt. Stylist Andrew Mukamal, who also counts Margot Robbie and Billie Eilish as clients, dressed Mulligan for the Oscars.

Greta Lee

Greta Lee accessorized her Loewe gown with diamond and emerald jewels by Tiffany & Co. The actress was styled by Danielle Goldberg, who also works with Olivia Rodrigo, Ayo Edebiri and Laura Harrier.

Billie Eilish

Eilish sported a Chanel skirt suit featuring the label’s trademark tweed. The singer accessorized with calf-length socks and cap toe Mary Janes, as well as a houndstooth top handle purse from the French fashion house. Eilish was also dressed by Mukamal.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan opted for a Zuhair Murad gown from the designer’s spring 2024 collection. The “Never Have I Ever” actress’ black and white frock featured a large bow and a thigh-high slit. Ramakrishnan also added on a pair of platform heels by Flor de Maria.

The 96th Academy Awards is the most highly anticipated awards show of the year. Jimmy Kimmel returns to host the Oscars for the fourth time. All five Best Original Song nominees will perform live during the ceremony, including renditions of “I’m Just Ken” featuring Ryan Gosling, “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish, Becky G’s performance of “The Fire Inside,” “It Never Went Away” by Jon Batiste, and a performance of “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” by Scott George featuring the Osage Singers.
