Emmy Awards Red Carpet: 2024 the Year of Sheer

Sheer fabrics dominated the spring 2024 runways of Brandon Maxwell, Chanel and Balenciaga, among others: now, the celebrity set is swiftly following suit. At the 75th annual Primetime Emmys on Monday, stars including Selena Gomez, Ellen Pompeo and Kathryn Hahn sported see-through styles, bringing one of 2023’s biggest trends into the new year.

Kathryn Hahn

Hahn opted for a sheer ruffled blouse and an embroidered tea-length skirt featuring floral appliques. The actress accessorized her ensemble, which came from Christian Dior’s spring 2018 couture collection, with a pair of By Far black pumps. Sophie Bille Brahe provided Hahn’s diamond jewels. Jordan Johnson Chung, whose other clients include Sandra Oh, Anna Kendrick and Kiernan Shipka, styled Hahn for the Emmys.

Selena Gomez

Gomez’s botanical print Oscar de la Renta dress was studded with over 450,000 burgundy sequins. The “Only Murders in the Building” star added on diamond and pink sapphire jewels by Tiffany & Co. Stylist Erin Walsh curated Gomez’s glamorous look. Among Walsh’s other A-list clients are Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba and Elizabeth Banks.

Kaitlin Olson

Kaitlin Olson’s Monse gown featured sheer corsetry and a white low-rise skirt. The actress accessorized with a Rodo clutch, Larroude shoes and diamond jewelry by XIV Karats, Dena Kemp and Zydo. Rhonda Spies, who also dresses Sofia Vergara and Finn Wolfhard, styled Olson for the awards show.

Jenna Lyons

“Real Housewives of New York” star Jenna Lyons donned a high-neck black gown and embellished high-heeled sandals.

Ellen Pompeo

The Primetime Emmys, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, honor excellence in the television industry. Comedian Anthony Anderson hosts the 75th annual ceremony, which is broadcast on Fox. Although the awards show typically takes place in September, the 2024 Emmys were postponed until January due to the concurrent Screen Actors and Writers Guild strikes.
