Robert De Niro is bringing his latest family-centered feature to his own turf thanks to Tribeca.
De Niro, who co-founded the festival and film program with Jane Rosenthal, is set to host a special screening of the upcoming film “Ezra” exclusively for Tribeca Members April 29 at the SVA Theatre in New York City. The advance screening marks the second Tribeca Members event since its inaugural offering, “An Evening with Larry David,” to celebrate the series finale of the beloved HBO comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
“Ezra” follows stand-up comic Max Bernal (Bobby Cannavale), who lives with his father (De Niro) and autistic son Ezra (William Fitzgerald). As Max struggles to co-parent with his ex-wife (Rose Byrne), the family tries to make difficult decisions about Ezra’s future, leading father-son duo Max and Ezra to embark on a cross-country road trip. Vera Farmiga, Rainn Wilson, and Whoopi Goldberg co-star.
The feature is directed by Tony Goldwyn, who also appears in the film, which was a standout 2023 festival favorite. “Ezra” was picked up by distributor Bleecker Street following its TIFF premiere.
“I had a great time working on the film with everyone involved. It was done with a lot of heart with people who really cared and had a personal involvement in the project,” De Niro said in a press statement. “I’m excited to share this with my Tribeca family.”
The advance screening in partnership with Tribeca and Bleecker Street will feature a Q&A with director Goldwyn and actor Cannavale. The special evening closes out Autism Acceptance Month.
Tribeca co-founder and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises Rosenthal said, “We’re thrilled to bring together our growing community of Tribeca Members for an exclusive, advance screening of ‘Ezra’ during Autism Acceptance Month. Throughout the year, Tribeca Members will have access to a host of insider perks, such as exclusive premieres and events. Next month, we’re eagerly anticipating our special Tribeca Festival Preview event where you can meet our team of programmers and get an early look at what’s in store for this summer’s festival.”
Additional upcoming membership perks for Tribeca Members include early access to the 2024 Tribeca Festival Guide and single ticket sales before they go on sale to the general public on April 30; a Festival Preview with Tribeca’s programming team, led by Festival Director and SVP of Programming Cara Cusumano, at the Tribeca Screening Room; access to exclusive Tribeca Festival and De Niro Con events; and private screenings of Tribeca Films acquisitions.
